Adult Education
Our purpose is "to know Christ and make Him known". In seeking to live as disciples of Christ in today's world, we encourage every member to be involved in study, worship, mission, and fellowship. We also encourage our church family to take seriously the authority of Scripture, to focus on the needs of others at all stages of life, to identify the spiritual gifts of each person, and further develop the personal involvement of all of us in prayer and spiritual discipline.
To accomplish the above purpose of our spiritual calling we have developed the following programs for our Christian growth.
Adults discuss various topics from spirituality to political issues, led by Rev. Dr. Kevin Buchanan, guest lecturers, and members of the church. Recent topics include: Chrisitan Attitudes on War and Peace; The Desert: A Study in Biblical Imagery; The Formation of the Canon; C.S. Lewis (using a video series led by Dr. Earl Palmer); and a book discussion on "The Heart Of Christianity" by Marcus Borg. Currently we are studying the Book of Acts, led by Pastor Buchanan.
OTHER ADULT EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES
Various groups offer educational experiences during the week. These include monthly meetings of the Women's Association Circle, Thursday evening Bible study, and a number of interest groups that meet regularly. Check the Faith and Life page for topics and meeting information.
SPIRITUAL RETREATS
From time to time, we have organized retreat opportunities within our congregation. Men and women have attended separate retreats which incorporate their own issues. Many members participate in retreats sponsored by Zephyr Point and Calvin Crest. Some small groups (see Faith and Life) also provide spiritual growth opportunities.
