Dr. Wayne Kidwell -
   Director of Music Ministries

Dr. Wayne Kidwell is enjoying his first year at First Presbyterian Church as Director of Music Ministries.  He is not new to many members of the congregation as he has been active in Turlock's musical activities since the sixties when he and his wife Elizabeth moved to town.  Included in those activites are serving as a choir director, organist, accompanist for community presentations such as Messiah, and being a guest musician for service clubs, solo musician at special events as well as playing keyboard throughout the area for weddings, anniversary parties and other occassions with the Con Brio String Quartet.  He was president of the Turlock Community Concert Association for six years, President of the Kiwanis Club, and President of Phi Delta Kappy chapter at CSUS.  Sacred music is one of his passions in life.  He has been involved with churches and community events since his junior high years.  He has served professionally as music director for four churches in Missouri and California and appears every summer in church services in northern Iowa.  After receiving his first degree in Missouri he taught music for six years, was a chaplain's assistant in the Army before returning to school for his masters in school administration.  Wayne recieved his doctorate from Southern Illinois University in 1968 after having been granted an honorific NDEA fellowship.  His concurrent career in public school administration was spent working in several Turlock area schools.  Wayne has been active as a member and officer of the Stanislaus Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.  One of the special things he has be able to do since retirement is to attend the national and regional organ conventions in the summer.  Not only can you enjoy the best organ music, but you can bring home wonderful new literature that is available today for musical groups.  Besides music, his other passions include reading, traveling (he has been in all fifty states and has driven the Alaska highway, Europe, Russia, and will include the Panama Canal this year), playing bridge, and most recently spending time with his two little grandchildren.
